I'm trying to find the name of the gunner that accidently shot himself with a minigun (he forgot to remove the safety sector cover) when clearing the gun. It has been so long, I just can't seem to remember. Can anyone help? It was at An Khe in 1970 before we moved to Pleiku. Thanks

I don't remember any details, but I do recall talk of this, or a similar, incident at Holloway in '72.

I Remember it well luckly they still had the bullet catcher mounted over the barrel's all it did was wake everyone up & damage the Mini! _No-one was hurt in this incident except the gunner's pride & the 2-3 lb's of Ass-chewing he got! Shakey Cool

WE had either a D.G. or C.E. on a slick in the next revent from me, before we stood down who had a runaway M-60 & broke the belt leaveing 3-4 rd's still in place, Bolt was still to the rear I was un-hooking n-1 & n-2 P-line's so I could flush engine out & Bam! He had slammed the spade grip's down on the p.s.p. & the dam M-60 fired caught him under the chin & took off the top of his skull Shit he only had 3 more mission's to fly & was going Home! he kicked like a chicken with his head cut off I still have night-mare's sometime's about it! Shakey Sad

Could you PLEASE clean up the post about about "Stuart" he was killed "while attempting to clear his jammed weapon when it accidentally discharged, striking him" from his DD form 1300,Report of Casualty # A-3143 dated 2 Aug 71.
Have copy for your inspection.
His Family checks this board from time to time and I would ask that this post be removed.

To Mr. Hedgley
Please accept this as an apology from one of his Family Members it is hoped that after 38+ years you can put this behind you and live a peaceful life.

Sincerely.
Sfc. Stuart ret.[/img]
