| Comment: | Was talking to Hugh Smith yesterday. He had a question about the zapper attack. The day after the attack, he and some other members were doing a sweep of the east perimeter. They spotted a pile of brush with numerous blood trails leading into it. Two members of the cav unit to our north were also out there. Two grenades were tossed at them, and they were both killed. At that point, Hugh and folks started taking fire from the brush pile. First Sgt Whitney ran to the ops center, being wounded in the arm in the process, and requested that a gunship that had just finished up a blade change be launched to suppress the fire. Shortly, the bird cranked up in the maintenance area and launched. After an initial pass, they came back for a second pass and salvoed all seven rockets from each side into the brush pile; no further fire was received. Does anyone know who the crew of the gunship was? | |
